I m going to be flying to La the end of July, and plan on doing some shoots there. My question is i dont want to carry alot of lighting , but want to use some outside fill lights and maybe some indoor lighting....I have several options:
my 2 Adorama monolights , which are very inexpensive but dont have an external power supply, I also have one Adorama flashpoint strobe with ext. power supply, which isnt to heavy ( Flashpoint 2 320ws), i also have 2 Yongnuo460n flashes with wireless hotshoe attachments. I plan on taking some reflectors, umbrellas and maybe one softbox. I just dont want to have to take one extra bag on the plane for lighting and you KNOW how they love to destroy bags on a flight lol.....any advice would be MUCH appreciated...thanks, Larry

Actually Larry, let me when you figure this out, but I can only offer up the "off the top of my head" contribution here.

1. Ship the stuff. UPS provides reliable tracking and can ship to your hotel.

2. Buy a more rugged case. I sometimes use cases made for other things besides photography, like hard shell golf cases, or cases for musical instruments ( I just bought a hardshell drum case new for $20 that fits my wind machine perfectly).

Use foam to put your lights in, and that's about the best I can come up with!

It carries my battery, 2 lights, softboxes, light stands, cords... pretty much it's my studio in a bag! Not to mention the price is right too.

Sweet! I'm getting one of those next! See, that's what I love about forums- someone always knows something that can help others out. I've been looking for something just like this, and they're $189 at B&H.

For example- I bought a lens filter and couldn't get it off my lens after I screwed it on- no matter what I tried (it's like Chinese handcuffs- the harder you grip it to unscrew it the tighter it gets) and I wasn't about to go after it with a pipe wrench. So I Googled up "stuck lens filter" and immediately found a forum topic on it. Turns out you can use a rubber band around it to slip it off- worked brilliantly. Forums are life-savers sometimes I'm tellin' ya! :D
