I was messing around with a couple hot lights & a reflector, i learned i should definitely not use auto-focus for closeups with such a wide aperture...

Oh man I was so confused for a minute- in photo #2 the shadow across her nose made it look like she had her nose pressed up against a piece of glass and I was like --WTF??
Low-depth stuff looks good on close-ups when the face is in focus and past that is out. I saw a recent cover of 'W' magazine with Brad Pitt on the cover where that was done really well.
What's wrong with your auto focus? Too close for it to pick up?

looking back on them now i wish i would have focused manually on her eyes for each shot.

You've got a good sense of composition, J. I love the hair and the highlights, it's straight out of an anime cartoon.
